Rome Project

Today in Western Civilization we were told that we will be doing a project on Rome. We can pick almost any type of project that we want to do and we can pick our partners. My partners are Sydney and Nicole. I am really happy with my partners because I know we will all put in equal amounts of effort (just like my previous group). I am excited about our idea and I think it will turn out very well. We have already decided who is getting what supplies. There are two parts to our project. It is due in four weeks so I think we will definitely be able to get it done with a good amount of time to spare.

Plato's Allegory of the Cave

Today in Western Civilization we watched a video. We were supposed to watch the video yesterday but we did not have enough time. The video we watched is called "Plato's Allegory of the Cave." This video seems very odd at first but once I heard the symbolism of the story I understood it more. It is a parable that is about some people who are chained in a cave as prisoners. They have only seen shadows their whole life so that is the only thing they know. One of the men is released into the real world. He is shocked that everything he has known was only shadows of the real thing. He eventually went down to the cave to tell the others about what he has discovered. When he didn't see what he used to see and what they still see correctly, they made fun of him. I didn't understand what the symbolism was at first. At the end of class when we almost understood but not quite, Mr. Schick told us. It symbolizes how we are being told what to believe every time we watch news and commercials. We need to not reject the ideas we hear on TV, but make up our own opinions. We have to go out into the real world and have our own thoughts. I really enjoyed this class I found it interesting how Plato almost foreshadowed TV.

Today in Wester Civilization we talked about our essay and the mistakes we made. Mr. Schick explained many of the different grammar problems that he found in our papers. I know that I read over our paper and my partners did also. I had to make some changes to my parts and to fix some small grammar issues in my writing. I think I caught most of the issues I had. We were going to watch a video and have a discussion but we didn't have time.

Today in Western Civilization we went over our tests and answered the questions in class. We got our grades back for the test and the essay. I am happy with the grade I got for both. Suky, Christine, and I all did an equal amount of work and each put in a lot of effort into doing the best we could have done on this paper. I will use this test to help me study for the final exam. There were some small mistakes on our paper on The Three Great Philosophers, but overall, we each did very well. We spent the rest of the class looking at our essay and reviewing Mr. Schicks comments.

Today in Western Civilization we took our Ancient Greece test. I thought that this test was very difficult because remembering dates is hard for me. I watched the video and studied the Google Slides. I hope I did well because I studied a lot and put a lot of effort in to understanding and remembering the information. He graded the tests in class today. I am happy with my grade and I think my studying payed off.

Today in Western Civilization we worked on our paper. I am editing the paper with Christina to make sure it sounds the best it can. I know we all put a lot of time and effort into this paper. This paper sounds good and as of now we have 1172 words.

Today in Western Civilization we worked on our project more. I actually got to finish my part (first paragraph and Socrates). I will edit over the weekend and fix it a little but I am done for the most part. I think my partners are also almost done. I think we have done a good job on the paper and used our time wisely. On Monday we will go over each of our parts and make it flow together. Right now I am at lunch writing my blog and Mckenna is right next to me. She saw that I was doing my blog.
